Roman Frontier Studies

Research on the Roman limes is concentrated at the moment on two projects.
In the eastern limes sector of Noricum the Fort and the Vicus of Zwentendorf (Lower Austria) are being studied. This work encompasses not only the new analysis of earlier excavations but also the interpretation of the evaluation of aerial photographs, geophysical prospection and other surveys.

An additional focal point is the investigation into the history of the troops of Legio II Italica. Within the framework of cooperation with the Institute of Mediterranean Heritage of the University of Koper (Univ. Prof. Ddr. M. Guštin and Ass. Prof. Dr. I. Lazar) and the Pokrajinski muzej Celje, the camp of Legio II Italica at Ločica (Slovenia) and the legionary camp of Albing (Lower Austria) are being explored with geophysical prospection and surveys.
