Research into Roman Rural Settlement in Noricum

In the Norican Limes sector the rural settlements in the hinterland of Mautern-Favianis (Lower Austria) have been studied. In the central area of Noricum, a prospection of the roadway station of Voidersdorf-Immurium (Salzburg) took place. In addition, research was carried out in the burial fields of the south-eastern Norican Vicus of Stari trg-Colatio (Slovenia), as well as in the cult sites on the Frauenburg near Leibnitz (Styria) and on the Burgstall near St. Margarethen in the Lavant Valley (Carinthia). Moreover, within the territory of Flavia Solva (Styria), the investigations extended into rural settlement structures with Villae rusticae and Vici in the lateral valleys of the River Mur. The results of numerous geophysical measurements, surveys and excavations, carried out since 2006 in the rural settlement sites, shed new light on the infrastructure of this region during the Roman period.
